I was in Oslob recently to explore Sumilon Island and Tumalog Waterfalls and of course to experience whale shark watching adventure. But I am not going to talk or go into the details about that Oslob adventures yet (that would probably be on my next post) because what I can’t wait sharing now was about my travel from Oslob to Dumaguete City yesterday. I just want to share some information which can be very useful to travelers coming from Cebu and are planning to visit Dumaguete soon. Well, getting to Dumaguete from Cebu City by ferry originating from the city is more likely the first choice for many. But let me tell you that getting to Dumaguete by bus is one exciting and scenic trip.
I am here in Dumaguete City right now visiting close families. I arrived here yesterday and know what? I got here without any hassles and I didn’t expect travel time that short considering the trip involved jumping across two islands. How I did it? Here’s how.
Getting from Cebu to Dumaguete
If you are originating from Cebu City, head to Cebu South Terminal and take a Ceres bus. Ceres operates direct bus service from Cebu City to Dumaguete City. Just look for the bus destination sign that reads Dumaguete. Or you can also take a Ceres bus with destination sign that reads Oslob via Bato and Liloan. Since I was already in Oslob, I can choose any of these buses – it’s just a matter of which bus arrives first. And in my case yesterday, the latter came first.
Once in the bus, tell the driver that you want to go to Dumaguete. If you hailed a Dumaguete bound Ceres bus, you can take that same bus all the way to Dumaguete. For Ceres bus bearing Oslob via Bato and Liloan, simply tell the driver that you are going to Dumaguete and you will be dropped off in Liloan Port in the town of Santander. Fare from Oslob to Liloan is Php 32. Fare from Cebu to Liloan is Php 215. Travel time from Oslob to Liloan Port is approximately 30 minutes. Travel time from Cebu City to Liloan port is more or less 5 hours.
In Liloan Port, you’ll take a fast craft operated by Cuadro Alas leaving Liloan Port to Sibulan Port every hour on the hour. Fast craft service from Liloan Port starts at 4:30AM until 7:30PM. Full regular fare is 70 pesos. Students and Senior citizens has the privilege for discounted rates.Travel time between ports is around 15 to 20 minutes.

In Sibulan Port, you can choose either to take a tricycle or jeepney in going to Dumaguete City. If you are not in a hurry and don’t have luggage in tow, you may take the jeepney – it’s the cheaper option but you’ll have to wait until the jeepney gets full. I chose the tricycle and for Php 150, I have it all for myself and my luggage and left the port right away. In 20 to 30 minutes, I was already in Dumaguete City.
